When I went through allergy testing, I was given a double-blind test for black pepper. It was the first time I ever knew anyone could be allergic to it. While sitting in the test room with about 10 other people, I began to fixate on one person I hadn't noticed before. An unexplainable rage built in me against this very nice person. It was so bad that I had to leave the allergy clinic.
I am normally a very peaceful person and would never hurt anyone else. The rage was an adverse reaction to the black pepper.
After learning this, I began to realize why I would get short-tempered with my friends and family. Even though I was short-tempered, I kept it to myself, which was very hard to do. After learning about my allergy, I avoided black pepper like the plague. And, my short-temper problem went away.
I have other symptoms related to black pepper. Since black pepper is so very difficult to avoid, I encounter it once in a while. Restaurants use it, and it's common in prepared foods. So, when I feel my temper shooting up, I advise myself it's an allergy and not the result of anything anyone else had done. It helps. Also, some of the earliest symptoms are: inability to think clearly, muscle aches and pain in my arms and legs, fatigue.
Does anyone else have this allergy?

I recently discovered I am allergic to milk, I have always had dairy issues and always just thought I was intolerant. Recently even Lactaid products would make me sick, previously those were ok for me as was some organic dairy but no more.
I have learned to do a lot more baking and cooking and even much more from scratch so I have less risk of problems, but eating out is still a difficult task for me as can visits with family (who don't always understand).

An unpleasant or dangerous immune system reaction after a certain food is eaten. The cause of food allergies is unknown. In some cases, allergies experienced during childhood may resolve in adulthood. Symptoms of a reaction can include digestive problems, hives or swollen airways. Severe reactions can be life-threatening. Antihistamine drugs treat mild reactions. A severe reaction needs an injection of the drug epinephrine and emergency room care.
